Welcome readers to the Rice Reading Group's blog! We are excited to share information that we learn about elephant poaching in Africa. As we read the book "Akimbo and the Elephants," we will be writing our opinions about poaching and about our ideas to stop it. Thanks for reading!
this blog is excellent!!! No one will poach elephants ever again after reading this blog. thanks for all your effort.
ReplyDeleteThe poaching of elephants for ivory, meat, hide and other elephant parts (mainly for use in traditional medicine) is still prevalent in many countries across Asia. Despite worldwide protection through the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) Treaty the value placed on elephant products, particularly ivory, the lack of effective enforcement and the remoteness of areas of elephant habitat means that there are those that still kill elephants for profit.
ReplyDeleteJust because of this blog I want to grow up and be a Game Warden. I am going to see what's going on and stop it in the second
ReplyDeletepoaching elephants is the wrong thing to do. elephants are one of the most nicest animals on the planet, and to kill them off one by one is just plain sick. help save the elephants hand in hand. person by person. human by human. this is what we were created for. (Anthony Bruno)
ReplyDeleteI love that Oxford made this cool blog, I wish I could be a game warden. I would want to be just like Ms.Martin's dad so I could convince and tell people stop poaching, not just elephants any animal.
ReplyDeleteThe Rice group is excited to have comments on its blog! Look for an entry from our scholar Josiah tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cole! Save the elephants, they are God's creatures too.
ReplyDeleteWe need to stop the poaching. These poor elephants never hurt us, so why hurt them? These hunters have no right to hunt elephants for their tusks. One way we can stop them by not buying their jewelry made from ivory. Killing these elephants just for their ivory is selfish and cruel.
